Julie Vej founded her label Mottainai Studio, while studying
sustainable fashion design in Copenhagen.
During her studies she did experimenting about textile, upcycling and aesthetics.
She never felt attracted to the fast and seasonal fashion, but chose instead to start her own Art studio where she could create and explore her own universe of
Slow Aesthetics

This way of saying is the key of the life and process of the studio.
Julie Vej´s intention is to constantly push the line for aesthetics and sustainability.

Inspiration from Rural Japan
Julie Vejs artistic journey has been profoundly shaped by the timeless beauty and rich traditions of rural Japan.
The intricate patterns, vibrant colors, and centuries-old techniques of these textiles have become a deep source of inspiration for her work.
But it is not just the craftsmanship that captivates her; the natural surroundings—the quiet mountains, bamboo forests, and peaceful gardens—further fuel her creativity.
In Japan, she finds a unique harmony between nature, tradition, and artistry, which continues to ignite her passion and enrich her artistic expression.
